Dotonbori

One of Osaka's most popular tourist destinations, this street runs parallel to the Dotonbori canal. It is a popular shopping and entertainment district and is also known for it's great selection of restaurants.

At night it is lit by hundreds of neon lights and mechanized signs, including the famous Glico Runnig Man sign and Kani Doraku Crab sign.



Amerikamura

Locally known as "Amemura" this shopping district is considered Osaka's counterpart to "Harajuku" and is a good place to see the cutting edge of teenage fashion and youth culture in Japan.

It is a lively atmosphere that is populated with cates, clothing stores, and thrift shops with a younger feel than the nearby shinsaibashi area.

Osaka castle

Toyotomi Hideyoshi built Osaka-jo in 1583. Hideyoshi, being the great battle expert that he was designed the most formidable castle ever built in Japan. One large moat surrounded the whole castle with only two ways across it.

It is a famous landmark, a popular sightseeing spot, and the symbol of Osaka. The castle tower underwent a major renovation in 1997. The re-engineered and refurbished Main Tower is illuminated both inside and out, highlighting the castle's brilliance as the symbol of Osaka.

Osaka Aquarium

Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, the Osaka aquarium "Kaiyukan" is located in the harbor area of the city. It features 14 separate exhibits and is populated with over 35,000 specimens representing 380 individual species.

The "Kaiyukan" is one of the largest aquariums in the world and can be found in the Tempozan harbor village at the center of the bay. The Kaiyukan is like no other aquarium anywhere and it remains a magnetic attraction for children and adults alike.
